Overview

Omakase is a mobile product concept exploring how restaurant booking can be transformed into a more immersive and intuitive experience.

The project focuses on translating the essence of the omakase dining philosophy — trust, simplicity, and craftsmanship — into a seamless digital journey.

Process & Method

How I approached this project

Service design + Principles

I translated the omakase philosophy into principles that guided every screen decision.

Double Diamond
01 · Discover
Hypothesis
Reservation platforms feel misaligned with premium brands.
02 · Define
Problem
Create an intentional, refined reservation journey.
03 · Develop
Solution
Japanese minimalism, reduced friction and refined language.
04 · Deliver
Result
Mobile prototype of the experience.
Design principles
01
Trust
Fewer options, better curation — let the chef lead.
02
Simplicity
Each screen with a single goal.
03
Care
Microcopy and pacing that respect the user.

I took the omakase philosophy — trust the chef, simplicity, care — and translated it into three design principles. When you design from principles, consistency comes for free.

A final laptop mockup displays a blog or article resource section with images and text blocks, reinforcing the podcast’s commitment to connection and education.

Challenge

Traditional restaurant booking platforms prioritise function over experience. For premium dining concepts like omakase, this creates a disconnect between the digital journey and the emotional value of the experience.

The challenge was to design a booking flow that feels refined, intentional, and aligned with the elegance of the dining experience itself.

My Role

I led the product concept from end to end, including:

  • Defining the product vision and user experience

  • Designing key user flows from discovery to booking

  • Creating a cohesive visual system inspired by Japanese minimalism

  • Prototyping a complete mobile experience

Approach

I focused on simplicity, clarity, and emotional tone.

  • Designed a minimal interface with strong visual hierarchy

  • Simplified booking and selection flows for ease of use

  • Used imagery and motion to create a premium, immersive feel

  • Built a consistent design system aligned with the brand concept

Impact

  • Demonstrates ability to design end-to-end mobile product experiences

  • Explores how emotional design enhances usability and perception

  • Showcases strong visual direction combined with UX clarity

  • Reflects a thoughtful approach to simplifying complex booking flows
